Seika Machinery, Inc. Introduces Solder Paste Recycling Unit

Seika Machinery, Inc., a leading provider of advanced machinery, materials and engineering services, has introduced a Solder Paste Recycling Unit.

Seika’s new Solder Paste Recycling Unit enables approximately 90 percent of waste solder paste to be recovered as solder bar. The system provides a major decrease in disposal costs for factory waste, a reduction in CO2 emissions, and reduced costs for solder bar as a result of recycling waste.

Solder paste inspection (SPI) traditionally uses resist height or a pseudo-pad height to calculate solder volume on a pad. However, as features are increasingly miniaturized and compressed on the PCB, resist thickness differences are making SPI measurements inaccurate. Toshiyuki Matsuoka, Anritsu Precision Co. Ltd. and Tim Cappoen, Seika Machinery Inc., discuss a new sensor technology that combines two optical systems to measure solder paste deposits from the true pad.

In Japan, the police department purchased McDry Ultra Low Humidity Storage Cabinets for their scientific investigation labs in all prefectures. The purpose for using the dry boxes was to remove moisture reliably from cellular phones that were submerged under water and to allow safe retrieval of data.
